WUDL Debaters Excel in Regional Competitions

As we prepare for our national qualifiers (starting tomorrow, January 20th!), we shouldn't overlook the fantastic work of some of our debaters who attended regional competitions earlier this month.

Zahra/Charlie from Stuart Hobson were invited to an exclusive Novice invitational, the Legends of the West tournament, bringing together the best novice debaters in the nation for a Round Robin tournament. They were the only 8th graders in the competition, the only non-asian minorities in the competition, and some of the few public school participants in the tournament, which featured elite teams from New York, Sacremento, Los Angeles, Dallas, Nashville, Birmingham, San Diego, and DC. Zahra and Charlie excelled, finishing tied for 3rd place.

We look forward to seeing them seek to represent us at Middle School Nationals shortly.

Over MLK weekend, the WUDL sent teams to the Lexington Invitational. Ranu/Jalen led the way this time, advancing to Octo-Finals in the JV Division. Their case has centered on countering the anti-democratic movements in the United States all year, which reared their ugly head in our own back yards on Jan. 6th, 2021. We are proud of their hard work, and their foresight.

Don't forget to join us February 20th for the 2nd half of our National Qualifying process, all from the comfort of your couch!
