Introducing New WUDL Program Coordinator: Dara Davis
The Washington Urban Debate League would like to welcome its first new hire since the inception of the league, Dara Davis. Because of the hard work and commitment to grow policy debate in the DMV Area from our Program Director, David Trigaux, the WUDL Board, coaches, parents and students, our league has been able to bring on Dara Davis as our new program coordinator.
Dara is an alumna of the Chicago Urban Debate League. While living in Chicago, she competed and coached for Lane Tech High School, the first back to back UDNC Champions. She also competed for Loyola University of Chicago doing Parliamentary and Worlds style debate. Most recently, she was the Athletic Director for K-12 Chicago Public School, but do not ask her about professional sports teams because the only games she watched were the ones her students played in.
As program coordinator, Dara hopes to bring some of the curriculum development that she helped implement as a volunteer of the Chicago Urban Debate League. One of those projects being “Debate in a Box”, which is essentially a coaching manual on all things debate. Coaches will be able to find lesson plans and activities to teach students flowing and disadvantages, and even advice on communicating with parents and school administration about the benefits of debates.
Our league just wrapped up our Matthew H Ornstein Summer Debate Institute and if camp is any indicator of how the school year will go, this will be WUDL’s best season yet!
