Asha Verma Named Ornstein Outstanding Debater

Asha Verma, of Kenmoor Middle School, was named the Matthew H Ornstein Outstanding Debater for the 2018 summer institute. This marks the first time that a young woman has won the award and the first middle schooler to take home the prize. Asha is a rising 8th grader and spent this summer's institute in the junior varsity lab (which I co-taught with Alex Green). She was precocious beyond measure, quickly grasping each concept we introduced and helped those around her understand the lessons as well. 4th Annual Ornstein Summer Debate Institute a big success!

The 2018 Ornstein Summer Debate Institute was bigger, longer, and better than ever! More students (138) participated than ever before, even more than we were expecting, and did so for two weeks instead of one, a sign of growth and maturity of our summer program. The program was so large that our end of institute tournament had to be held at two locations--many thanks to Trinity Washington University and Washington Latin for your generosity!
