Citi-WUDL Financial Literacy Debates

This year, the Washington Urban Debate League partnered with the Citi Foundation to hold a series of debates about financial literacy. Students attended a workshop series where financial professionals from Citibank, the U.S. Department of Labor, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and veteran financial journalists brought the students up to speed on various financial concepts. Students then spent several weeks refining their cases and preparing for the competition, hosted at Washington Latin PCS. 2nd Annual Atticus Finch Debates at Howard University!

The second annual Atticus Finch Debates took place at Howard University's school of Education, highlighting a budding partnership between the Washington Urban Debate League and DC Public Schools. The Atticus Finch Debates are the culmination of our Debate in the Classroom program, where all 8th grade students at a DC Public School read Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, and participate in several weeks of debate instruction during the 3rd quarter. Each school nominates qualifiers to represent their school, and these outstanding students compete in a tournament against students from across the city.
